Teaching some of life’s most important skills

Blogs by Matthew J Magic

I thought I’d talk a bit today about other things that I do outside the ‘Matthew J Magic’ umbrella.
For anyone that doesn’t know, as well as hosting the Masterclass in Wakefield, Leeds and Manchester, I am also one half of Circus Education alongside my friend Tom.

Going mainly into Yorkshire schools and organisations to deliver circus skills workshops, we provide many different entertainment and coordination-based activities for all types of people, venue and occasion.
Having been previously involved in the teaching profession, I still remain really passionate about helping children to further their capabilities… As I covered towards the end of last year on the blog, magic and circus arts are an excellent motivator when it comes to personal development as they allow the student to experience a tangible progression, directly linked to the amount of effort they are putting in.

To me, the same applies regardless of whether I’ve been hired through The Magic Matt Show, Circus Education or anywhere else. Sure, learning juggling and plate spinning are always going to be fun for kids, but it’s definitely not a distraction from the ‘traditional’ education methods. Essentially the end goal is the same: to progress and have an appetite to progress even further.

The fact that they can enjoy themselves whilst doing this makes it all the more worthwhile.

I’ll leave you with a quote from a great piece that ESpark mentor Viv Parry wrote about what Tom and I have been doing:

“Imagine if every child in the country experienced the magic of circus and the positive impact and power of learning. Imagine if every child had the opportunity to be championed for its achievements, however small.”

As always, if you want to discuss any of the above then please feel free to give me a call on 07838 157 044.
